Description
Third Reich Police (Customs) Dagger — Alcoso Solingen
With Fully Inscribed Blade and Original Knot
This is an authentic Third Reich Police (Customs) officer’s dagger, produced by the renowned firm Alcoso of Solingen. The piece retains its original scabbard and braided portepee knot, and most notably, it features a fully inscribed blade. The maker’s mark “Alcoso Solingen” is clearly stamped, confirming its authenticity and origin.
Description
The dagger is presented with its full-length polished steel blade, upon which a complete inscription has been etched. Please see detailed pictures provided.
The hilt and grip are of the standard Police and Customs pattern, with fittings that remain tight and consistent with Alcoso manufacture of the period. The grip shows only light age-related wear, while the metal fittings retain their period patina. The original scabbard is intact, with very minor surface ageing and edge wear in line with careful storage over many decades. The accompanying portepee (knot) is original and still firmly attached, providing additional authenticity and desirability.
It is constructed in carbon steel with nickel or plated fittings. The ricasso carries the clear Alcoso Solingen stamp, a feature sought after by collectors of edged weapons from this era.
Condition
The blade remains in very good condition, the inscription crisp and entirely legible. The hilt fittings are secure, the grip shows minimal ageing without any major cracks, and the scabbard is structurally sound. The portepee knot is in immaculate original condition.
Collectability
Daggers produced for the Police and Customs service of the Third Reich are increasingly scarce, particularly those with fully inscribed blades. This example, carrying the respected Alcoso Solingen maker’s mark, represents a fine opportunity for museums, institutions, or private collectors seeking a complete and original artefact.
This dagger is a historical artefact from the period of the Third Reich. It is described and presented here solely for Sale purposes. No ideological meaning is attached to its sale or study.
