Description

Deactivated Springfield 1903 Bolt-Action Rifle.

This deactivated Springfield 1903 bolt-action rifle is a handsome and historically significant example of early 20th-century military small arms, offered for display, study and collection. Retaining the classic lines, robust construction and familiar silhouette of the U.S. service rifle that saw use in both world wars, this piece has been rendered permanently non-functional to comply with UK deactivation standards.

Overview

The Springfield 1903 is widely recognised for its accuracy, sturdy Mauser-inspired bolt design and service history. This deactivated example preserves the rifle’s original receiver, bolt body and stock furniture while clearly showing the permanent modifications that prevent firing. It is an attractive and educational object for militaria collectors, museums, film and stage props, or historical displays.

Description

Visually, the rifle presents in good condition with a straight-grain walnut stock that displays period character: handling marks, light dings and a gently worn wrist consistent with age. The receiver and barrel retain original stamping and proofs, the bolt carries the familiar Springfield profile. The sights, banding and sling swivels are retained, giving the rifle a complete, authentic look. Where the deactivation work was carried out, the alterations are visible and professionally executed — permanently disabling the action without compromising the rifle’s overall appearance.

Collectability & Use

Deactivated military rifles like the Springfield 1903 are highly desirable to collectors who wish to own a significant historical piece without the legal obligations of live firearms. They are ideal for museum display, educational collections, period re-enactment, or as props for film and theatre. The Springfield’s association with early 20th-century American military history gives it strong contextual value in themed collections.
